What is Accelerated Reader program?
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a web based program that promotes reading. This program is designed as a motivational tool to encourage each student to read more independently. The program benefits students at different reading levels. It also motivates students to read more quality books. By reading more books, students become better readers, better test-takers and better students.
How does the program work?
Students select an AR book to read within their recommended reading level.
(Please visit the AR BookFinder link below to search of all available books with AR quizzes). Reading levels are determined by the classroom teacher at the beginning of each school year. Based on the reading level, each student has individually set points goal to meet in each quarter. Both, reading level and point goal are entered into the AR database for student to view when they logged into the program. Students and parents can monitor the AR progress by loging in to the Renaissance Home Connect site (Please visit the link below).
Quizzes taken previous years can not be retaken again this school year.
Who participates in AR?
All students in grades 2-5 are encouraged to participate in the AR program.
How and when do prizes get awarded?
Individual students’ prizes are awarded at the end of each quarter. LMC staff will take a picture of each child meeting his/her goal to display on the bulletin board in the LMC. Students also will earn a small prize for meeting their goal.
