December 9, 2019 PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS

Week of December 9-13 - Penguin Patch Holiday Shop

December 11 - Chicago Steel “Live As Strong As Steel” Assembly

December 13 - Read With Rusty deadline extended

The holidays are around the corner, and we have an exciting program returning to school THIS WEEK!

During school hours, we will have a shop open where the children can shop secretly for their loved ones. Students will be bringing home letters and budget envelopes explaining more about the program a few days before their classroom's scheduled shopping day. The gifts are fairly inexpensive, ranging from $0.25 to $10. Items will even be gift wrapped when they come home! The students love this program and we are excited to be bringing it back again this year.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE PENGUIN PATCH SUCCESSFUL! If you are able, please use the link below to volunteer for a 3-hour shift next week. If you would like to help but are unable to commit to a 3-hour shift, please contact Julie Sterzinger at (or text 630-853-8765) and we will find a way for you to help! Thank you for your support!

On Wednesday, December 11th Steel players, along with a coach and mascot, Rusty will be visiting Cowlishaw Elementary to pass along their message of character development and how character plays a part in their lives on and off the ice. Steel players encourage kids to live out this message in three main areas:

• At Home - Be kind to your parents and be responsible.

• At School - Listen to and learn from your teachers and administrators.

• On A Team - Respect coaches and teammates. Display cooperation and teamwork.

The purpose of the program is to promote character traits such as kindness, respect, responsibility, cooperation, empathy, citizenship, perseverance, and fairness all while helping students learn about the game of hockey.

This reading incentive has ended, but you still have time to submit your reading logs and ticket orders until Friday, December 13th. Additional reading logs are available on the PTA website. Read with Rusty encourages children to read outside the classroom by rewarding them for reaching their goals over the 6-week timeframe. Students that achieve their reading goals will receive a complimentary ticket to a Chicago Steel hockey game at Fox Valley Ice Arena. On the night of the game, club members can join Steel Mascot Rusty and a player or coach for a pre-game reading session, plus all members will receive a Chicago Steel 20th Season Drawstring Bag and participate in post-game autograph signing.
